Shiny & New – website, logo, and studio!

By Life, Photography

2011 has been a busy year so far. Busy enough that it doesn’t look like I’ve updated my site in a very long time! For a while now, I’ve been working on the facelift that you see. It’s not quite done yet (still have to finish the portfolio section), but it’s working very well so far.

You may be wondering about my new logo. Here’s the background. My initials, of course, are A.G. In addition, I live in Nevada – the Silver State, and although it isn’t used as much anymore, silver prints were the standard in black and white photography for a very long time. Ag is the designation on the periodic table of the elements for silver. And of course, the Polaroid-esque frame ties everything back in to my profession.

The biggest event of the last few months, however, was the move into my new photo studio. Although I’ve had a studio for several years now, this time I devoted a lot of time and energy to construction a 40 foot cyclorama. This endless backdrop is a joy to work on. Where my old studio was limited by the size of backdrop paper that I bought, I can now photograph a motorcycle, a car, a small elephant…well, you get the idea. Come by and check it out sometime!

Leslie & The Badgers

This was one of the most enjoyable projects I’ve done in quite a while. Leslie & The Badgers are one of my favorite alt-americana bands. They’re all amazingly talented musicians, and Leslie’s voice has a soulful depth that is rare in today’s music. When they played in Reno last month, I jumped at the chance to meet them and take some photos.

They were on their way back from Utah, and I meet them outside of town at Love’s Truck Stop. We proceeded to a halfway deserted little town that I had scouted beforehand and shot till the light was gone…and then back to Reno for their show at Davidson’s Distillery.

Dave Muskin

Dave is an incredibly talented photographer. Unfortunately, he doesn’t have a website, so you’ll just have to take my word for it. My recent portrait of him, pictured above, will be incorporated into Dave’s bio in his upcoming book titled ‘Women.’

I should mention that Dave is also the owner of Davidson’s Distillery, my favorite bar in Reno and by far the best venue for bands. It’s where The Grannies play when they come to town, and The Flesh Hammers often perform there as well.

New Photo Series: HEAVY METAL

By Art, Fashion/Glamour, Heavy Metal, Life, Philosophy, Photography, Reno

This is the very beginning of an extensive new series inspired by heavy metal music. It’s influenced by many things (including Norwegian Black Metal), but mainly by my longtime friend Danni Slaughter. She is 100% METAL. We’ve got a lot planned for this project, both on location and in the studio. Eventually, we’re planning to create a limited edition book.
